I have posted a few pictures of the flocks of ducks now visiting the area of the channel of Presque Isle.

I was out to the South Pier and in a two hour span I saw 2 Bald eagles a Red Tail Hawk and several new species of ducks, I now can say there are Canvasback, Redhead, Greater and Lesser Scaup, Goldeneye, Red Breasted, Common, and Hooded Merganser, White Winged Scoter, Long Tail Ducks, Northern Pintail, North Shoveler, Coot, Wood Duck, Ruddy Duck, Mallard, Ring Bill Duck, American Widgon, Bufflehead, but the Ice is starting to break up starting at the inside of the channel so these birds will have more water to set and hunt in.

South side is probably a better looking side to observe them.

If you’re like me, you are getting a little bored with the winter weather!

However, If you are in or near Erie, you have a great chance to see some interesting visitors to our area!  From either the North Pier or South Pier of the Erie Harbor Entrance Channel going into Lake Erie, many kinds of migrating ducks are visible by eye, but I caution you to dress for the weather that is there, not what you are experiencing at your area. The wind coming off of the lake is super cold, and with these lower temperatures we are having, warm clothing is a must.

Access is available from the Presque Isle North Pier or the South Pier off the Bay Front Highway. Take the Captain John E. Lampe Marina Access. This is the only open water so you will find hundreds of ducks visiting in the next few weeks.

I have posted a few pictures of the ducks on this site.   A pair of Binoculars will help in finding the rare ones!  http://www.500pxart.com/joeroot/store
